Cher was born in Venice, a small country town nestled in the
rocky mountains of Central Utah. As a
young girl her family moved to Salt Lake where she began singing in public at
the age of six. Cher has always enjoyed performing and music. In the 5th grade,
a photo of her sitting at a grand piano was placed in the Salt Lake Tribune
after a teacher heard Cher compose a Piano Solo.
In the coming years Cher and her two sisters came
together to form a group called ‘The Hendrickson Sisters’. For several years the trio traveled across
Utah until after High School. With only
a few ever being recorded, Cher has written many songs since those younger days.
Cher began her professional
career singing folk songs
with a guitar in a local restaurant and Club of Park City, Utah. She then formed a band and played several clubs
and dinner theaters across northern Utah.
Known as the ‘Cher Hendrix Show’ she was discovered by a talent scout who
signed her to a Nashville Record Company.
Cher and her band continued performing as they began traveling across
the country. Performances included
opening for Johnny Paycheck, The Oakridge Boys and Songwriter Dickie Lee among
others. They also performed on Faran Young’s show and played many of their own
concerts for several years. With Cher’s
love for the piano, she then started playing in piano bars in Reno and
eventually across the west. She took a
break from full-time performing in order to pursue a professional career though
she has continued to write and sing throughout the years.
